Clare Fulton is a qualified, experienced primary and nursery teacher who has worked with children in all stages of primary school and in a variety of mainstream and ASN settings. The first ever Scottish trainer for Jolly Learning, she has travelled extensively throughout mainland Scotland and to the islands, speaking at conferences and providing professional learning in literacy, working with local authority literacy leaders, senior management teams, teachers and support staff to implement a comprehensive literacy programme for P1-7. She has consistently seen the growth in confidence and self-esteem of pupils as they have learned to read and write.

Invited by the Ministry of Education in Oman to deliver training to its inspectors and trainers, she then saw Jolly Phonics being implemented as the key literacy programme used in schools across the country and teachers, pupils and parents are now delighted to be reaping its benefits.

Internationally Clare has worked with teachers and leaders in the Middle East, Germany, Egypt and Greece.

A former National Literacy Trust Leader she has delivered the National Young Readers' Programme on several occasions, working predominantly with parents, grandparents and carers.

Clare has collaborated with Dundee Repertory Theatre staff to give young people the opportunity to perform on a professional stage, she has created a Fair Trade puppet show and advised schools on activities to highlight the use of language for Literacy Day, Literacy Week, World Book Day and Book Week Scotland.

Also working for Scottish Book Trust, Clare is passionate about seeing schools and communities developing a reading culture and embedding the belief that reading opens the door to all learning.

Training in teaching reading includes an overview of a complete literacy programme for primary schools, an explanation of how it is taught and lots of ideas for classroom activities and practical, meaningful learning. It incorporates systematic, synthetic phonics, grammar, spelling and punctuation, starting by laying firm foundations and then building on them.

Based in Scotland, Clare is happy to travel to any location in which there is a need for literacy training.
